Hello

some time ago i bought module from official addons store that required modifications of the core, that is not a problem for me because im a little php savvy (thanks vekia for tutorials!)

several days ago i migrated to prestashop cloud, everything worked well untill i wanted to append changes.

there is no possibility to customize shop, even a little!

the only one way to customize shop are modules... and these modules arent free of course.. much expensive that in other markets...

for example:

- facebook shop module on addons costs 80€

- i found another addon that is worth 30€ in marketplace that is not trusted by addons store

conslusion:

nothing is free. and in cloud you can't have customized shop!!!!

looking for the best presta addons with outstanding support? check this: PrestaShop Modules

by the way, if addon is trusted in official marketplace you can use it even if you bought it in other marketplaces.

For example, i sell mine modules in http://mypresta.eu store and also in official marketplace. This means that addons are validated by prestashop team.

to install module in your cloud store just follow this:

install module in prestashop cloud

It's important to note that PrestaShop Cloud is really a replacement of PrestaBox.  This allows those that are not hosting savvy and whose experience as webmasters is limited or they do not care to learn that area and who prefer to sell their products.  Then this is a good platform.  But it won't be for everyone especially those that have used PrestaShop before and prefer to have access to all aspects.  My two cents. Happy day, el

I tried it second ago well, it's pretty fast, but it can't be free as prestashop team said. i asked on support about limits.

1) no doatabase access,

2) there is a some performance limits,

3) you can't use there own templates

4) and you can't even use there own modules.

5) you can't apply overrides in handy way

and regarding to themes -  the only one way to change theme is ...you have to but them from addons store.

this is what "free" means exactly :-)

Hi Deftones, hi everyone!

I'm sorry you feel this way about PrestaShop Cloud. Perhaps I can change your mind if I clarify a couple of things that seem to be a bit blurry. The blurry is not surprising, since the hosted solution is all new (and shiny!), let me clear it up for you:

For security reasons, you can't access the database on a shop powered by PrestaShop Cloud. You're right on that part. PrestaShop Download and PrestaShop Cloud are two different ways to access the software, and the fact that the access to a shop's database is different whether it's hosted by PrestaShop or by yourself makes perfect sense. Think of WordPress.com: you can't access your database on a website hosted by WordPress.

Speaking of WordPress (which we absolutely love as a content CMS), did you know that you don't have any FTP access for your site on WordPress.com? With PrestaShop Cloud, you can access - and edit - the Theme directory, the Modules directory, and the Override directory. That must mean something to you, right? :)

With additional modules it's the same. Since PrestaShop is hosting your online store, with the Cloud version, we are liable (for you) for the security and stability of your online store. We cannot have users install external modules that don't meet PrestaShop Addons code standards. Which is why you can only install a module on your store if it's sold on the official PrestaShop Addons marketplace. Again, nothing new for a website that's hosted for you, no software company with a model similar to PrestaShop Cloud ever allowed you to install "untrusted" external modules.

PrestaShop Cloud is the most open SaaS software you've ever seen. More open than what's ever been done in the cloud.

We want to provide our PrestaShop Cloud users with the best Ecommerce experience they've ever had and we think PrestaShop Cloud is the best thing that could happen to the least tech savvy merchants out there, while still offering freedom to customize their store if they learn a bit of PHP and HTML.

I hope I succeeded in make things clearer :)

I agree,

prestashop cloud is very promising SaaS tool, i believe that it will beat all other e-commerce saas services. It's just a matter of time.

I agree also in part related to restrictions, it's to dangerous to allow to upload to shop EVERYTHING (not trusted modules). These modules can f**ck up not only your store, but i believe that also other stores on the same machine (memory leaks etc.)

well i think that if you want to fast, stable and free SaaS service, it's worth to deal with PrestaShop Cloud.

You will pay for additional services and for extensions, but in fact you will pay for this even if you will be on your own hosting.

nothing is free, but not everything is so amazing as prestashop and its community :) :) :) :)
