My daughter works in Macintosh land. She's a professional photographer and recently had a wakeup call when her big hard drive where she keeps her work crashed. She's trying to see what she can get recovered by a data recovery service but yikes. That's multiple terabytes of potentially lost work.

She needs to go to cloud backup. She probably needs under a TB of working storage but probably at least 3TB of backup, and of course it really should run automagically in the background so she can't easily forget to back up her work.

The way I imagine her mostly working is she takes pictures, processes and edits them and then saves off her originals and finished product to backup, then periodically clears out space to work in on the local machine without fear of losing her originals or her recent work. Then when she wants something older, she pulls that down from the cloud to work on.

What are good options for that? She's not wealthy. She's regularly employed by a small newspaper and does outside work too. (Weddings and engagements, commercial work, personal projects.)

edit: less concern about the privacy than about making sure her files don't disappear

Several cloud storage and backup options may be suitable for your daughter, including Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, iCloud, and Backblaze. These services offer automatic backup of files and have a range of storage sizes and pricing options. It's important to choose a service that fits your daughter's needs and budget, and that integrates well with the software she uses for editing and processing her photos.
