I know that this feature doesnt exist, but i want to say that it will be great if prestashop, in the future releases will support also uploading of other than images filetypes. for now, if i've got product customization field it allows to upload only images. it's nonsense a little, so this is why i think that other file extensions are necessary ... otherwise this option will be useles...

just use customer files upload module
it's a powerful addon with ajax upload form (with progress bar)
this addon has got many features to define accepted file extensions, as a shop owner you can upload files too (to customer orders) so your customers can download these files etc.
it's a powerfull tool to create upload / download feature in your shop.
