While Magento is the leading E-commerce development platform in the market with almost 250k websites using Magento, Odoo, formerly known as Open ERP recently entered in this highly-competitive ecommerce software market. There is no doubt about the authority and popularity of Magento as an ecommerce platform. But Odoo Ecommerce is a force to be reckoned with. While Magento and other ecommerce systems are standalone front end systems, Odoo has surfaced as an integrated suite of business applications.

Features and Functionalities

Both platforms excel in terms of scalability. Both have community and cloud versions.

Odoo has a convenient user interface and offers various features including easy configuration, integration, and customization. Magento, on the other hand, is the most powerful ecommerce system available which is open source and available for free and is SEO friendly.

Backend functions

Odoo is a good start for small to medium businesses as it doesn’t only provide an easy way to manage all business operations, but has a strong back-end process. On the other hand, if you are using Magento it has an advanced backend but only for ecommerce related functions - catalog management, order management, customer management, etc.

Setup and Customization

In terms of usability, Odoo is easier to set up and use. It doesn’t need much technical expertise to set up an Odoo store. While Magento might require IT professionals to get it working, the results are definitely worth it. And the advantage that Magento has in this regard is that there are many certified Magento developers available in the market.

Reports

It is important for any e-commerce to generate accurate and proper reports that lead to business growth. Both Magento and Odoo Enterprise Resource Planning generate precise sale reports along with inventory, product performance, and sales summary reports. While Odoo also provides the Subscriptions KPIs, Magento offers a Site search report which is not currently available with Odoo.

Magento has instantly hit the ecommerce software market and offered store owners brand new ways of engaging customers and generating revenue.  Odoo, initially known as OpenERP, has entered the market not so long ago, but already got an army of supporters.  Obviously, both Magento and Odoo have their pros and cons.

Functionality

Magento is a robust platform that serves specifically to the needs of ecommerce industry. Thus, it provides an extensive range of functional capabilities that are critical to modern online retailers. Odoo positions itself as an all-in-one business management platform that incorporates the full range of enterprise systems. With a wide spectrum of in-built applications, Odoo can take care of ERP, accounting, analytics and other business processes without the need of deploying external plugins.

Costs

The price of deploying Magento depends on the chosen platform option. Magento Community is a basic, open-source version of Magento. Same as Magento, Odoo offers both an open-source and a paid editions. The first one is free of charge.

Ease Of Development & Community Support

Magento is based on PHP, which as of today dominates the market with over 80% share. The default Magento installation is quite cbvs                                intuitive and easy-to-use which makes it a perfect option for developers. Written in fast-programming languages Python and PostgreSQL, Odoo provides for quick store deployment. However, the platform lacks proper documentation, which can slow down the development process. As for the supporting community, Odoo counts 20,000+ people. Even though the number of websites running on Odoo is constantly growing, it is still not as huge as the number of Magento-based stores.

Integration

Magento: Even though Magento provides for a plethora of built-in capabilities, integration with 3rd-party systems is still a relevant task, especially for the bigger stores.

Odoo: Being modular, Odoo already provides the majority of applications required for business process management.
