Blocking/redirecting all other options in your router firewall is the only way to ensure that all your devices are compelled to utilize Pi-hole as their sole DNS provider.

There isn't a drawback. In some circumstances, I've discovered that using a private proxy and VPN together is faster than using a VPN alone. The broker and VPN will likely pass through different servers, so it's not entirely redundant. Still, it's not as safe as if other businesses offered the proxy and VPN. You could try running the proxy by itself in uTorrent or another client if you only need it for torrenting. The benefits include keeping your IP for regular online browsing and not worrying about unintentional disconnections revealing your real IP when using a proxy.
